Bryce Harper Showers Seven Times Before Each Game
By The Whistle on Thu, January 17, 2013

You thought Bryce Harper became baseball's next big thing just based on his talent?  No way - Harper is extremely superstitious and took Major League Baseball by storm as a 19-year-old thanks to his bizarre habits.

Harper told Jimmy Kimmel that he gets to the field around noon for a 7:05 p.m. game so that he has time to take a whopping seven showers beforehand.  Harper also eats Eggo waffles, and only Eggo waffles, before each game.

Harper's other major superstition - he wears the same unwashed clothes during hitting or winning streaks - is shared by tons of big leaguers.  But the repeated showering and Eggos?  It's a pretty safe bet that Harper is the only guy that does that.

Harper is a once-in-a-decade talent, so it's pretty safe to say that he'd be putting up big numbers no matter what.  But for many athletes, getting the mind right before a game is critical to success.  So even though Harper's superstitions sound really weird, if they make him feel relaxed and confident on the field, they're probably worth it.
