Companies love putting their logos all over sports teams' jerseys and stadiums because they think it's a great way to attract customers. Even your local pizza shop hopes to attract business by sponsoring your rec basketball team. The practice makes sense for many companies, but this may be an exception.
The backstory: Greece has fallen on hard economic times lately, so its sports teams are looking for money any way they can get it. As a result, they are willing to try out some non-traditional sponsors, like Palaiopyrgos FC, which now features the purple cross logo of a nearby funeral home on its jersey.
I find it a little puzzling that an undertaker thinks he is going to bring in business by sponsoring a soccer team, but what do I know?
Midfielder Haris Bakogiannis thinks the logo is a great addition:
"The cross makes our opponents fear us - and nobody has ever worn something like it, so we're famous now."
